COMELEC

The Moroccan Electrotechnical Committee (COMELEC) is established by order of the Minister of Trade, Industry and New Technologies of April 28, 2009 within the framework of the legislative and regulatory provisions governing the Moroccan standardization system.

The purpose of the creation of COMELEC is to make it possible to monitor the development of standardization in the electrical and electronic fields and to take part in efforts to harmonize national standards with the requirements of international markets so as to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the country. electricity sector and to promote its integration into international trade and its adaptation to market trends.

COMELEC, made up of representatives of the various stakeholders, aims to ensure the general interest within the framework of its action at the level of Morocco and will defend national positions at the level of regional and international electrotechnical standardization bodies.

Thus, COMELEC constitutes on the one hand, the national interface with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), and on the other hand, a place of consultation for the development of national standardization. in the electrical and electronic sector. The main tasks and missions of COMELEC are as follows:

  • Propose guidelines for the orientation of the standardization and certification work of standardization committees in the electrotechnical sector;

  • Propose to the Moroccan Institute for Standardization (IMANOR) the creation of new standardization commissions in the electrotechnical field or the extension of the scope of existing commissions;

  • Propose the development of new standards, the revision or cancellation of existing standards;

  • Propose possible solutions for standardization subjects that have not obtained consensus within the relevant standardization committees in the electrotechnical sector;

  • Represent the Kingdom of Morocco at the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) and other regional or foreign organizations with similar activities;

  • Issue the national position relating to questions or projects issued by the aforementioned organizations;

  • Contribute to the fulfillment of Morocco's commitments and obligations in the field of electrotechnical standardization and in particular within the framework of its partnership with the IEC and CENELEC;

  • Propose strategic development axes of standardization to IMANOR covering the fields of electrical engineering;

  • Contribute to the promotion at national and regional level of electrotechnical standards and the related certification and conformity assessment systems;

  • Study any question and supervise studies related to the development of national standardization in the electrotechnical field.
